Scholarships

AHIMA Foundation offers scholarships annually to student members in pursuit of degrees in Health Information Management or Health Informatics.

Degree Types

Associate's Degree

Associate's Degree

Amount: $3,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a CAHIIM-accredited AA degree in HIM or HI.
Bachelor's Degree/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Bachelor's Degree/Post-Baccalaureate Certificate

Amount: $5,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a BA/BS degree or a post-Baccalaureate certificate accredited by CAHIIM in HIM or HI.
Master's Degree

Master's Degree

Amount: $7,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a CAHIIM-accredited master's degree in areas related to HIM or HI.
Doctoral Degree

Doctoral Degree

Amount: up to $10,000 award
Type: For students pursuing a doctoral degree in an area related to Health Information.

Scholarships

Veteran's Scholarship

Veteran's Scholarship

Sponsored by the Walter Reed Society. This program is designed to provide scholarships for members of the military and uniformed Services. Specifically: spouses of active-duty military and uniformed services, veterans and their spouses, wounded warriors and their spouses, and surviving spouses.

 

*NEW in 2023* Walter Reed Society will sponsor the cost of AHIMA student memberships for interested veterans and spouses of veterans.

Minimum eligibility requirements:


- Current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).


- Currently enrolled in a health information program accredited by CAHIIM in the United States.


- Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0).


- Must have at least one full-time semester or credit equivalency remaining to complete their educational program after the scholarship award date (after August 15th, 2024).


- Submit a completed online application (including all of its components).


- Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application.

Merit Scholarship

Merit Scholarship

The program is designed to provide scholarships to students who achieved academic excellence and demonstrate the potential to be future leaders in Health Information Management and Health Informatics.


Minimum eligibility requirements:


- Current member of the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA).

 

- Currently enrolled in a health information program accredited by CAHIIM in the United States.

 

- Achieved a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5 (out of 4.0).

 

- Must have at least one full-time semester or credit equivalency remaining to complete their educational program after the scholarship award date (after August 15th, 2024).

 

- Submit a completed online application (including all of its components). 

 

- Have not been awarded any AHIMA Foundation scholarship for the academic degree being sought through this application.

Dissertation Grant

Dissertation Grant

The program is designed to provide financial support to students who are conducting research for their doctoral dissertations and who show academic excellence and demonstrate the potential to be future leaders in Health Informatics.


Minimum eligibility requirements 
 


- Current member of the American Health Information Management.

 

- Actively enrolled and pursuing a doctoral degree at an organization accredited by a CHEA-recognized accrediting organizationDiscipline is not limited to health information or health informatics, but preference will be given to these fields.  

 

- The dissertation proposal has been successfully defended/accepted by the school, and confirmation that the proposal has been successfully accepted must be submitted.  

- Submit a completed application (including all its components).

- Have not previously received an AHIMA doctoral grant (students
may have received scholarship support from AHIMA for a different degree level).

Submission of an application and meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee scholarship award.
